    Water Parks To Beat The Heat

    It’s above a 100 degrees outside without any cool down for hours. Lately, there have above normal temperatures throughout areas of the United States. What to do to try and tame the dragon’s breath? Well, why not visit a water park!

    When it’s so hot outside, it’s hard to decide what will be a quick relief of the scorching sun, but natural instincts would lead one to think that water is the the solution. Water is a solution to a hot day! Why, there are many people who seek relief from a hot day using water whether it’s coming from a fire hydrant or long dip in a swimming pool.

    However, the other day, it was suggested that a visit to a water park theme park would be a fun soaked cooling experience! At first, it did not seem like a good idea since you have to go outside, drive to the water park and stay outdoors in the heat to enjoy the water. Seemed like being outside in the heat would defeat the purpose of any water recreation. Gave in and decided to visit Knott’s Soak City in Palm Springs, especially since it is the closest water theme park. And boy was I glad!

    California Launches Social Media News Portal

    Living in California, the home of Silicon Valley and other high-tech enclaves in the state, would lead one to believe that  state of the art and latest technology is utilized more than that of any state in the union. Well, California’s government has taken a step closer to using some of the latest internet technology to provide the public with state information on demand. Friday, California State Government launched the California News Portal to keep it’s residents and anyone else who may be interested, informed about the happenings in and around state agencies and departments.

    You may ask yourself, “how can one website provide all that information from various state agencies and departments?”  The California news portal is employing social networks to provide information from across many social media platforms and aggregates them into it’s news portal. In a nutshell, the site pulls in information from real-time feeds (RSS), Twitter accounts, YouTube channels and other social networking sites that provides almost “real-time” information. Of course, real-time in this instance, can be the “time of dissemination” of California public information.

    According to the California News Portal site;

    The site includes more than 83 Twitter accounts, 40 YouTube channels, and nearly 100 RSS feeds. It features up-to-the minute news. The use of syndicated feeds drive the news channel creating virtually no added manpower to manage it. As departments and agencies publish their RSS feeds, make Twitter updates, and post YouTube videos, the News.ca.gov site is automatically updated with new content.

    Currently, the California News Portal feature such topics of interests as business, education, government and health and safety, as indicated by the tabs located at the top of the web site, to name a few. Once inside a topic, there are RSS feeds, Twitter updates and YouTube channels corresponding to the selected topic of interest if available. The information on the web site will continue to change and grow as more State agencies and departments adopt the social media technologies and receive approval  by the department’s Public Information Officer or executive management.

    California has taken a huge step forward with the California News Portal to keep it’s residents and others informed of pertinent state events and information using some of the latest social media platforms available, check it out here.
